In my opinion it can definitely "not* be Captain Kirk. While he was a courageous leader that cared about his crew, that silly grin on his face when faced with the prospect of unlimited dalliances with green-skinned females made him seem like a teenage boy invited to spend the weekend with Hugh Hefner at the Playboy mansion!
Compare that to the majesty of Captain Picard as he endured the trials set by the Q and survived his traumatic encounter with the Borg; he seemed much more akin to a hero in a Greek tragedy than anyone else.
However, I am prejudiced in favor of Commander Spock. While I can definitely *not* say that he was a greater person than Captain Picard, he was an aged philosopher that liked meditation and chess, since I am that also then I unfairly break the tie with Picard in favor of Spock! What say you?
