What would happen if mods were only elected, not chosen by lichess?

Factions would form, ban battles would ensue, any semblance of balance would vanish, forum would be filled with incessant elect me posts,False accounts would increase, moderation would become a tool, comments would be stifled and chaos would descend.

Yeah that's what can be observed in any democracy in the world, and on stack overflow as well, where mods are elected.
#3 the difference is democracies have means to counteract that, vide: trias politica
Nothing special happens. Only the Lichess site will be full of noise and lawlessness if an incompetent mod is chosen.

But in lichess u can increase ur votes by making alts. And unless there is already human-looking robots, it will be kinda hard

Even if you make 10 alts, if enough people take part in the vote, it shouldn't affect things that much?
