In math there is "operator precedence": multiplications and divisions go before addition/subtraction.
Therefore it is 2 plus 2x2=4 minus 2. 2+4-2 equals 2-2+4 (because addition is commutative) and the 2s cancel out. The result is 4 in integers, which equals 3.999... in real numbers.

Is it weird that of all things I have seen on Lichess, this is my absolute favorite.
