What do you think it means to be a Man?

It seems to me that one of the prime aspects of manhood is placing others before yourself. Women, children,it is your duty to protect them. Standing up for the weak and speaking out against injustice. Sometimes it's just reaching out a helping hand when a helping hand is needed.
What is your opinion? What is the measure of manhood?
I would keep it simple and say that being a man means being a male human.
Yep, it's hard to be a human,but I do my best.

And I’m neither of those! I’m a female demon!
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream — and not make dreams your master;
If you can think — and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings — nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And — which is more — you’ll be a Man, my son!

Yep, read that when I was young. Very formative as to my opinion of what it means to be a Man.
Being a male human is a must.
But summed all up is to that you are on your life journey alone. So, you should be able to stand by yourself. If anyone wants to jump into the boat in that journey, you should be able to stand for them as well. After all, its your ship, you are in charge of everything.
A man is priest, protector, and provider for his family.
That means having to sacrifice a lot and often and it is particularly hard to do that in the current world where society tells you something different.
In the worst case a man must be prepared to sacrifice his life for family. Of course that doesn't happen very often but almost all men will have to give up part of their life for their families.
Men also need to teach their children to take on responsibilities and take the consequences of their actions.
Having read back what I said, it's basically the same thing Dukedog said !
Well what it means to be a Man these days seems to be that we are useless, as that's what a lot of TV Programs for example seem to imply, when Men are invariably the Butt of the joke and often get hit by somebody, with no issue raised.
However who very likely built the TV station building ? not everyone necessarily want's to lay bricks all day, and that's ok , but respect goes many directions. :).
You might say I have some pretty outdated views, but I think it involves a lot of jousting and saving damsels from absurdly tall towers
