What are your thoughts on gun rights?

American citizens have the right to bear arms, we Brits have the right to bare arms.😜
OBviously citizens have the right to do so. That is in the Constitution, @Legobuilder101 you are stating the obvious. It is a given right.

However, I do believe in strict background checks and an assault rifle ban.
Hunting and self defense were just the daily norms when the Constitution was written. History has shown that tyrants seek power. Tyrannical governments exist today. The people of other nations, where ruthless people have risen to power, live in a state no one would ever want. That is the purpose of the 2nd amendment. To empower the People, in times of great need, to throw off a tyrannical government. The notion that assault weapons should be banned runs counter to the idea of the People being able to defend against such tyranny. The "Right of the People to keep and Bear arms shall not be infringed" part means exactly that. And it is not outdated. Because tyrants arent gone from the Earth. So, that amendment wasn't about hunting, nor about warding off bad guys,, because that was just how life was. And, with regard to self defense, still is. When a bad guy decides to do bad things, telling them youve called th cops and they need to stop isnt really very effective.
There is no conclusive evidence that background checks changed anything. The NO Guns Allowed signs at school didnt stop anyone from killing masses of defenseless children and teachers. People bent on murder are gonna get there, see that sign and say, "Ohh, well, dang,, Im not allowed to carry this in there and kill people"?? Kinda silly, innit?
People who cant pass a B/G check just buy or steal a gun . Friends of people who cant pass a check buy them one, or they find a private seller who is unaware of their legal responsibilities to ensure the buyer is legally able to own a gun and buy one that way. The notion that the Framers didnt intend for the People to be armed with Weapons of War doesnt hold up to rational scrutiny. What would be called an assault rifle would be what a minimally armed person would need to defend against a tyrannical governments armed thugs.
The anti gunners declared when concealed carry started gaining ground there would be blood in the streets. Did not happen. In fact, gun violence has been dropping for twenty years. With every big surge in buying, which even Democrats have started doing recently, many First time owners, many, first time to even Hold a gun...Gun violence isnt doing what the antigunner crowd said would happen. The Average person isnt a bad guy. So, more Good Guys with guns, per capita, means, to the bad guy, he stands a better chance of getting shot if he pulls a gun and starts trouble.
People simply Must know, not just their rights, but their own abilities, and be responsible to the community. If you cant hit your target, dont carry.

Finally!! Lichess puzzles I can beat!
Baseball bats kill people let's ban baseball bats, knives kill people ban knives, let's all just hide, dig a bunker and HIDE, people kill people let's ban people. Frankly though it is because people value their physical life but not their soul and have bought into the idea they came from an accident, all issues like this go back to the rejection of the payment made at the Cross.
And the delusion as far as taking gun right away is a lack of any understanding that the government never has and never will just be 100% interested in we the people as they claim. Utopia is not coming, rather the after utopia is promised and attempted destruction from the stone made with our hands. 😎
The Lord Jesus Christ.
I know it's a little off topic, but this reminds me of a story I heard. I can't remember what police department it was but it was in America, and they hired a martial arts instructor to talk about self defense. And after giving a brief talk about guns, he went out of the room to get something, cocked a gun around the corner of the door, came back and asked if anyone heard a clicking noise. The officers in the room said yes and identified it as a shotgun, to which the instructor asked why they didn't have their guns out ready to defend themselves.
Depends @Kaynight1 , spiritual discernemnt determines measures... The real sword is the Word. But as far if some is planning on doing more than just getting saved from hell(which is free by faith), in other words preaching, soulwinning and things that require boldness... Yes, but more as a means of self defense and really even then discernment determines if it is right or not to defend self. Usually not. But people have families is a big thing. But the reason the RIGHT is bare arms is important is more because giving the government the only weapons is not smart.. than individual situations like this. The point is more it is unwise to trust the government and you are giving yourself to into a trap.
[36] Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
