I was driving on a countryside road in South France when I saw a really big Malpolon monspessulanus sunbathing right in the middle of the road. I didn't want it to be killed by a car so I stopped on the side, grabed a stick, and started pushing it away from the road. But it didn't like it and literally jumped to scare me away. I was slightly shocked because I had no idea snakes could do that. But then it went away from the road on its own and all was well.

I'm not exactly scared of them but I do respect them.Ran across a few rattlesnakes when hiking and backpacking and talk about an instant shot of adrenaline in that split second between hearing the rattle and locating the snake.

I've held snakes before.

Every animal is special, and if you are careful you should not be sacred of them, some snakes look beautiful thought, although some do look bad.

Generally it's not that the animal that is dangerous, it is more of the fact that the person is unaware.

Just my opinion however,
