I think the propaganda point is a myth. But you do have a point about being arrested for speaking out in public. The issue i'm having now is that this is the internet and I'm surprised I have only seen one Russian guy speaking out here on lichess compared to the dozens of Putin supporters. And these videos of Russians supposedly living there saying people are fighting with each other over the war makes no sense to me if this is the case. Wouldn't it be more dangerous to make your views known to your neighbors then it would be through a vpn on an anonymous account on an obscure website? This website has more Russian players then any other chess site and they are completely silent. We have to face these facts.
