I wonder why people confuse the words capturing and eating.

There are many instances where a guy claims that he 'ate' his opponent's piece
This confusion is one of the funniest confusions in chess, according to me
I remember in my first otb tournament, my opponent made an illegal move, and i called an arbiter and said
"He made an illegal move. He was in check but he ate my horse"
Ate my horse?
How would you react if someone confuses captured with ate?

My first thoughts when I saw such a thread

Nobody in recorded history ever heard the word "capturing" and ordered the fois gras.

* foie gras
Ah, I think this is due to their native language having different names for 'capturing'. For example, the Chinese word for capturing (in a board game) is literally 'eat'. It happens in other languages too and sometimes it gets carried into English

One time when my relatives were trying to teach me Go, I put the little piece in my mouth because they told me to 'eat' it.

So if you say to a Chinese person "Eat my shorts", they will attempt to capture your underpants?
