You are right. This is a threat because this will start affecting us and animals if not already.
If you just think about it:
Global warming refers to the increase in the average temperature of the earth's surface during the last century. One of the reasons why global warming is dangerous is because it disturbs the overall ecology of the planet. This results in floods, famine, cyclones and other issues.
Plus it will affect us+animals
The trend between CO2 and temperature is clear: see the Keeling curve. While things like coal combustion do cool the planet in the short term due to reflective particles being released into the atmosphere, in the long term they cause temperature increase due the CO2 released during combustion via the greenhouse effect.
