Does anyone know the reason for the war between Russia and Ukraine?

Does anyone know the reason for the war between Russia and Ukraine?
Russia wants to control Ukraine and not allow them to align with the west, The whole thing started in 2014 because Ukraine signed a deal about cooperation with the EU. Then Russia invaded and grabbed Crimea and put a pupet government in Donetsk.

We don't know why Putin decided last year to sort of finsish the job. The plan was to put a Russian-friendly puppet government to govern all of Ukraine.
Better to read verified articles from the Internet than ask it here. You make this thread an arguing match between critics on the couch
Some key words if you want to google is Euro-Maidan.

It was a revolution where the Russian-controlled president was sort of forced to leave - even though he actually sort of ran away without needing to.

1: Yanukovych wins the election to become president in Ukraine, by promising to sign a deal with EU. He now is hiding in Russia.

2: Yanukovych then refused to sign the deal, likely because his Russian master told him not to.

3: Ukrainians start crazy street fights in Kiev, because they want the deal with the EU.

4: Yanukovych runs away to Russia, after that Russia invades Crimea and Donetsk.

5: There's fighting for 8 years.

6: 2022 Russia makes a bigger invasion and want to take Kiev and get rid of the elected government. Likely they wanted to put Yanukovych as president.

The important caveat isn't that Donald Trump gave them weapons - it's that congress voted to, and he illegally defied congress' will and withheld the aid until he was nearly impeached for it.

I think Trump sold them the first bunch of javelins with no fuss, but then next time around he withheld he aid because of some crazyness.
The main reason is probably because they are right next to each other. Think of all the internecine rivalries over the centuries which have been fueled largely by propinquity.

Neit.

That is one factor generally in Richardson's analysis in his book 'Statistics of deadly quarrels'.
