Do people really know what is best for them?

@boilingFrog dictatorship has not to be necessary hitler, and for sure is not the best form of government. Bit i still prefer it to american colonialismus and fake democracy...power to multinationals...hell not
Of course not. Evolution created us, and all answers lie in rules and laws of this world.
And we appear as arrogant, selfish, inert beings actually. For example, for many years it's clear that a lot of animals have consciousness (even octopuses) but people want to believe they are unique and that "God" cares for them.

One thing is special here - our progress. We could forever freeze on monkey level, we could disappear by supernova or hundreds of other survival bottlenecks. Yet in some very beautiful way we got a chance to actually understand what's going on.

Funny that biggest step in this process - space exploration is just two very huge monkeys (USSR and USA) competing for standard who is better question. And returning to "what is best for them" question, it's obvious that only direction we can progress now is studying the world. Doing things which never was done before.

How much of people's time spent on buy\sell, advertisement, playing chess, parties, viral videos, football, wars, etc etc etc. How much of it was spent to get first photos of Venus surface?
That is basically answer if we know what is best.
@hal9k the biggest progress was pennicillina not slace exploration...space exploration could be seen as the beginnong of the regression....and for the time all person use their time as they want you prefer to take photos of venus sirface ypur free i dont knoe how to do it and i truly dont care, playing chess its easier and funnier
