You should loose the game if you abort it.

I know that there is a temporary ban when you abort a game if you didn't get the white pieces.
But why don't you loose the game also?
The reason I complain is that it's frustrating that so many players do this.
Because entirely unplayed games should never be taken into account in a rating system, otherwise it will turn into a mess.

...and if the game is instead unrated, does it really matter?
@LarsenB

It matters!
And the problem is not "unplayed games" but the fact that players deliberately abort games over and over when they don't get the white pieces in the draw.
Otherwise they can abort games over and over and have the white pieces in every game.
That's why it matters and a short ban doesn't help to solve this problem. Only loss of game does.
I know exactly why people do multiple aborts, but your solution is worse than the problem.

- a loss on "0-move abort" of a rated game will ruin the rating system for *everyone*
- a loss on an unrated game is just pointless and will not add any additional "punishment", so, as I said, it would not matter

An actual solution would be to have proper pools, like on ICC, where the rating is *separated*... now you can actually disable aborts or count them as loss without ruining the integrity of the global rating system.
@LarsenB

It's not about my own rating but about the players who does it and the fact that it's NOT sportsmanlike behaviour.
Those who do it does it because they want to pump up their rating by having the white pieces in every game.
Only loss of game will stop this behavior because their rating is the only thing that counts for them.
The proposition you make might work technically but it doesn't stop their bad behavior.
Its not a white pieces issue its a cheating issue. Its better to abort 5 gam3s than to play vs an engine assited noob. One can tell suspisious players by their stats. Many times I had aborted games vs latter banned accounts. You can go to chess.com to get games with no cancel option. For me option to cancel games is necessary. And I never play on chess.com for that reason.

So aborts are must have for online chess. Especialy for long time controls. Otherwise cheaters woud be unavoidable.

Upd. Btw my assumption is that anyone who have basic knowledge of chess understands that white or black side you play is absolutely unimportant.

My opponents almost never cancel games likely since they see my stats arent suspisious and my games are clean.
Yours arent so much. So chess.com is the best option for you.
@LifeWaste

"My opponents almost never cancel games likely since they see my stats arent suspisious and my games are clean.
Yours arent so much."

Meaning?

Every player who have aborted a game against me have had the black pieces.
And all of them could have checked my stats prior to accepting the game( I always do this myself).
And BTW anyone who has understandig beyond the basics KNOW that it matters whether you have the black or white pieces.
