Thank you Lichess Mods!

Title says it all.

You guys do an excellent job at keeping this site and its community in order, and your cheat detection is unlike any other!

Yesterday I went on a massive reporting spree after running across several cheaters in a big tournament. Today I woke up and they all got banned (plus I got rating refund!) Amazing stuff, never thought it would have all been dealt with so quickly!

I encourage you guys to report anyone you find fishy. The mods work tirelessly to ensure the integrity of this site is unlike any other!

Stay safe during this pandemic, everyone

"your cheat detection is unlike any other!" - I'd honestly beg to differ. You cheeringly say that just because a bunch of reports were heard. No cheat detection system is perfect. And in fact I still see a bunch of cheaters running around and not being banned (despite reports). Plus I know at least one person who has been innocently banned.
regarding reports: not sure if I should try again when me or others didn't succeed the first time. Hm, maybe.
regarding appeal: appealing for a friend was already tried and answered in the way of "please don't do this, he can only appeal himself".
"And in fact I still see a bunch of cheaters running around and not being banned (despite reports)"

Then perhaps there wasn't enough evidence to convict them? How do you KNOW (100% sure) they were a cheater?

"Plus I know at least one person who has been innocently banned."

noun

deceitfulness shown in someone's character or behavior.
I think the lichess mods are great. I think every ban I have personally seen was justified. I think people need to take responsibility for their actions and ensure they do not violate the lichess TOS. Lichess is the best site objectively and it is all because of the mods. I would like to personally thank the mods for doing a great job. Keep up the good work!!
I think the Lichess mods are doing the best they can. No one is perfect.
> Plus I know at least one person who has been innocently banned.

There is only one way to know that for certain. And that way is to be that person.
But being that person is not even sufficient.
For example, you ẃould not believe how often players claim something like: "I never used an engine in my life! The reason I play so perfectly in the opening is because I check with opening books! See, I never cheated!"
I had a longer PM conversation with OP. I showed him two cases of cheaters that haven't been banned in the past. He reported both and they're both banned now very quickly. So, in conclusion, the case was obvious enough to get them banned in the past already. Is it sometimes that too many reports are coming in? Is it worth retrying after a week if nothing happened? Did the cheating algorithm change recently?

Re: anonmod - I've seen the noobs often enough myself in this very forum but this is not such a case at all. It's about a FIDE 2200 player who's been very prominent in TheBigGreek's community and who's just been known as a normal strong player without ever being suspicious. Some people even know him in real life so they can vouch that he's honest. So there's that. Hope that's all I need to say.

This doesn't mean ANYTHING. It's honestly pretty irrelevant, as many titled players and some GMs have cheated before.

What it comes down to is that anyone and everyone can be cheater, despite their personality, strength, etc. If the algorithm and mods thought that they were cheating, and they appealed and the ban was not overturned, the likelihood of them being innocent is very close to 0.
