Selection of players

So far I have only played on fisc. I am impressed with lichess, but there is one drawback compared to fisc. Because of the large number of players, you hardly ever meet the same one a second time. This makes everything a bit faceless. Or is there a way to narrow down the selection of players? Sorry for my english ...

Yes, that's so. But you can select the rating range of opponents when you 'Create a Game' and select the type and variant. Or you can challenge them personally on a usual basis.
If you don't want to lose track of a player you feel you played a good game with and would like to rematch in future you can follow them using the thumb up button that you find in their profile on the top right.
When they are online you will see them appear in a tab on your bottom right, called "friends online". To challenge a player click on the two swords button that you find in their profile next to the follow button.
If you want to play the same player you can "follow" them and challenge to a game later. Also you can select the rating range of your opponent in "create a game" menu, but you will always get opponents close to your rating rather than big rating gap. Another way is play in lichess arenas. They are for specific rating range or open without any limits.

I haven't played on FICS for years and years. What is your blitz rating there?
Gather yourself some groups of friends. Look for Twitch streamers, join their discords etc ... also try out variants and check out for other variant aficionados ... these are what makes my friends that I played many games with, and also the reason why I have 100+ followers
Welcome Sir 🐭 try 960 tournaments, the pool is significantly smaller 🤷
