Before you could only join 51 now I have already joined 53 teams they must have changed the limit or they would have removed it
Yay so i can join so many teams!
Pretty sure the team limit increases with the age of your account. There's still an upper limit though, although I don't remember what it is.

They made the rule when some people had already joined many teams I was on 72 teams when the rule was made, lichens doesn't automatically take you off some teams so if you're like me then you're lucky!
