These type of tournaments do not work well online. Basically, people are going to quit in the middle of the tournament and you end up with a bunch of forfeits, unfair pairings and complains.
in the profile the Average opponent rating, you even count casual games so it's not a perfect count I believe It'll be better to separate the Average rated opponent and non rated.
In Swiss tournaments losing players tend to drop out, but personally I think KO tournaments could be interesting.
I can't edit that one since it's past that deadline, but I meant that engine cheaters can eliminate everyone, so they theoretically have to be caught before the next round, else the pairings have to be recomputed after they are punished. This may require proctoring for the whole duration of the knockout, just like the qualifiers we had on this site for the Fischer Random Chess World Championship last year as a preventive measure.

So far, every big tournament on this site had at least one participant punished for illegal (engine) assistance, so cheating remains a major possibility. Even with a robust anti-cheat detection system, it currently takes at least 72 hours in most cases. As far as I've observed, it usually takes more than 1 hour for suitable action to be taken. This means that they could win the tournament before getting marked, should we have all pairings and eliminations programmatically done like in the swiss format, on spot, with no more than 10 minutes between rounds.

The format is surely interesting, but can be fun experience only when fair play is enforced throughout and games are checked for unfair means before eliminating players.
The temptation of being dishonest will remain with humanity till the end of time.
