Another new rating category

I like the idea of breaking up classical into two different categories.

How about breaking up Blitz into two different categories?
For example, everything over 3+0 (inclusive) and below 5+0 (NOT inclusive) would be Superblitz, and over 5+0 is blitz.

What are your thoughts on that, assuming the rapid - classical split ends up well?

I like that idea.

We want a nice user interface that is simple to read/understand, not a science textbook dissecting everything into 100 parts.

3 time controls is nice, 4 is better but it's aesthetically worse and increases clutter by 33%.

No need for that.
Besides, you don't seem to have any idea how much work such a split is for the developers.
The only reason for the split of the classic cathegory can be that hundreds of users have wanted the split very much for a long time.
And the developers seem to obviously love their users.
This cannot be explained otherwise.

One can (successfully) argue that 8+0 and 60+60 (or longer) are very different... it really isn't the same for 3+0 versus 7+1.
