Add a "Best-of-___" series feature to eliminate players who run after 1 game.

Too often opponents on here play 1 game and run if/when they win. Which is fine if it's a long game, but when playing blitz, you want to play a bunch of games in a row, and it really ruins the playing experience when people just play one game and run.

So I propose you add a feature that allows players to sign up for a series with other players (who also want to play a bunch of games in a row). ie best 2-of-3, best 3-of-5, best 4-of-7, etc. Each player gets wins for each game as usual, but then also gets a "series win" added to their record if they win the series.

And if they run before the series is completed, they forfeit those remaining games. Thus reducing the likelihood of people only playing 1 game and running.

I think playing series' would also just be a fun addition to the site, regardless.

In what way could it be abused?

If you're not interested in developing new features to make a site better because they may require extra work, idk why there's a forum asking for feature requests, but I can't even think of a way that a series format could be abused.

You should post a poll to see whether there's enough interest to make the extra work worthwhile or not. Personally, I think a lot of people would be interested, and any feature that gets people playing more games = people spending more time on your site, which is usually what web developers want.

Especially when the alternative is making me want to spend less time on this site. As it's no fun playing a 1+0 blitz game when your opponent runs a minute later. So I guess a better way to put this is: you've got an issue with your gameplay experience, and I'm requesting that you come up with a solution or people are going to stop using your site. I just offered one suggestion how to solve it. If you have a better way, whatever works is fine by me. Just do something about it.
You also need to apply the tournament forfeit-rule to the Lobby games. In terms of the timer between games that counts as a forfeit if you don't start the game within a certain amount of time. What's the purpose of having a timer between games if there's no consequence? Often players wait til the last second of the timer on purpose just to annoy the opponent, and they'd be less likely to do that if it could count against the rating.
Sandbagging, for example, becomes much easier. Just quit one series instead of losing 24 single games.
There are consequences for players not starting games. And #5 is correct; but also it could be abused by players challenging other players to unreasonably long (or unreasonably short?) matches to annoy them; also it could be abused by issuing multiple challenges to the same opponent to trick them into accepting a match accidentally; also it could be abused by confusing new players who don't understand what they're committing to; also it could be abused by finding ways to annoy an opponent during a game and doing it for the entire series; also it could be abused by SWAT-ing a known opponent to force them away from their computer.

There's already a rematch button; use that and/or talk with your opponent.
"If you're not interested in developing new features to make a site better because they may require extra work, idk why there's a forum asking for feature requests"

Huh? You ask, they decide. They've decided no. Complicated, huh?

"You should post a poll to see whether there's enough interest to make the extra work worthwhile or not. "

They've already decided. Doesn't matter about polls. Remember the poll about bringing back v1 of the site when v2 came out? Seriously, there was a poll! Some people voted to bring v1 back!! For realz!

"Just do something about it."

They have - they've considered it:

github.com/ornicar/lila/issues/4960
resulting in:
"I don't want to add such a feature." - ornicar
If you can make a very compelling argument maybe the entire team will reconsider... I'm just saying it's seeming very unlikely right now (on account of being a mess to develop, to maintain, and to moderate).
I do think this is another situation where some more stats could easily be added to a player's profile, so show, say, the average number of consecutive games with the same player (in the last week, or month, or whatever). Then the player could decide beforehand. Other stats could be published - for example, how frequently players have aborted games, or let the time run out etc. No need for complicated functionality to try and determine intention when you have the stats available to the interested party.
