Playing experience

Since my youth, I am an active chess player who is competing frequently in chess tournaments in The Netherlands and abroad. My level of play improved over the last couple of years by using powerful training tools and methods, which are underestimated and not frequently used by other players. In the summer of 2018, I earned the FIDE master title and my ambition is to keep on improving.

Group lessons are possible in small groups (preferably sign up in a group)

2 students 1.5 hour session for €27.50,- per person

3 students 1.5 hour session for €20,- per person

4 students 1.5 hour session for €15,- per person (Only 10€ per hour)

All student receive chess puzzles as homework, opening files and YouTube videos with additional chess materials

Teaching experience

I am working as an full-time chess coach teaching about 25 hour per week to students ranging from beginner to 2000 level, which I enjoy a lot. Over the year, I collected a lot of training exercises for different levels and created multiple opening repertoires and instructive YouTube videos.

Other experiences

I belief that being a good chess coach takes much more than the ability to play chess on a high level.
Luckily I learned a lot about coaching in chess and other domains. Apart from chess, I have been teaching a Bachelor course to students at Utrecht University and before that, I was teaching high school students.

Openings I have high expertise in are:

With black: Caro-kann, French Defence, Tringle Slav(Nooteboom, Marshall gambit and Stonewall)

With white: a lot of knowledge after both 1e4 and 1d4

Best skills

I would say my three best skills in teaching are:

1) To explain difficult strategic concepts in a way that is easy to understand and implement

2) To provide you with high-quality training material based on your level like; calculation exercises and an opening repertoire

3) To teach you how to use the most important books, chess videos, chessbase and other training tools, which makes you able to continue improving your chess even when the lessons are over

Teaching methodology

The lessons focus on the following aspects depending on your personal preference

- Create a personal training plan: Which openings to study and how? How to improve your tactics and calculation? What part of your game needs the most improvement?

- Game analyses: Analysis of your tournament and competition games

- Training exercises: Exercises to practice calculation and endgame knowledge

- Homework: exercises and openings to study in-between the lessons

- Tournament preparation: Specific preparation for your next opponent in a tournament

Chess players from beginner level till 2200 rating are welcome to take online training on skype. If you are interested you are welcome to plan a free introduction session, of 30 minutes to get to know each other. After the introduction session you can decide if you want to continue and take lessons.
