About me

A simple guy! I am 39 and I live in Durham, NC. I am giving lessons both in person and online. I also co-founded an online academy www.chessevolve.com where I conduct my group classes.

The core of my teaching philosophy is helping people improve, feel satisfied, and learn to self-educate. I teach you how to fish on your own. not feed you fish.

Playing experience

I have 30 years of playing experience, including 10 years in world youth and junior competitions. I won Washington International 2016, Washington Congress 2017, Charlotte Open 2018, and the US Open qualifier 2019. I also tied for first at the US Masters 2019 and won the Rilton Cup 2019/2020. I participated in two World Cups (2011 and 2021), Tied for first at the 2022 US Open, and qualified for the 2022 US Championship.

I won the 2017 US Federation's Chess Grand Prix. Overall, I have won about 25 international tournaments.

Best skills

Middlegame, evaluation, and strategizing. Training program. Endgame technique method.

Original content produced by myself.

Opening repertoires could be built upon request.

Teaching methodology

I am a fan of Jacob Aagaard's method. Endgame is always a must in my classes ( I generate my positions). I emphasize Smyslov, Dvortsky, and Carsten Muller's endgame books.

I create my own content, and it is usually hard. The idea behind my method is to infuse the idea of being able to independently think and evaluate any position. In that matter, I encourage my students to read the likes of Jeremy Silman.
