About me

I'm a 29 year old American who loves chess and fitness. I grew up in New York City and graduated from McGill University with a BA in Economics and minors in Mathematics and Mandarin.

Playing experience

I've been playing chess for just over 20 years. Some of my best accomplishments are winning the High School Nationals (2010), winning multiple Heroes Day Cups (2017 & 2018) and tying for first at the Sitges International (2019). As one of the leading members of my University team, I played for McGill during which we won 3 National Titles (2013, 2014, 2015) in each of which I scored gold Medal for my board. In 2017 I made the title of International Master. More recently I reached a new peak rating of 2501, entering the ranks of top 800 in the world for the first time in my life.

Teaching experience

I've been teaching chess for 13 years, having given my first lesson at the young age of 13. In high school, I would pass the summers teaching camps. I've developed an effective method of identifying key shortcomings in my student's thought processes and decision-making, and building an appropriate lesson plan around addressing them. I haven't worked with a student whose thinking I didn't change. I've helped 2 students get to National Master, 5 to National Expert, and one to become a Pan-American medallist.

Other experiences

I made a chessable course on developing your positional intuition and identifying factors with a finely tuned grandmaster radar. Check it out www.chessable.com/developing-chess-intuition-domination-and-other-lesser-known-positional-concepts/course/158547/

Best skills

I am very experienced in endgames, calculation, visualization, and blindfold. As a teacher, I specialize in correcting thought processes. Chess development does not happen in a uniform fashion and so each player has a unique set of biases that I'll work towards fixing.

Teaching methodology

Once I've figured out your biggest weaknesses, I'll create a tailored lesson plan to work on them. Our lessons will be complimented by a specifically designed study plan involving the most effective resources for self study and further mastery.
