I know Ilja for a very long time. Apart from being a very strong player he has a great chess education with deep knowledge of any part of the game. Once he showed me some secrets of his pet line - the Réti. He is one of the worlds leading experts of this opening, so you should contact him if you want to play 1.Nf3! Furthermore Ilja is a very smart guy with great communication skills. So any class with him will be a joy and fantastic experience.
I have been working with Ilja for a couple of months and I really would recommend him! He is one of the best players in Germany with a deep knowledge in strategy, tactics and opening theory. But the most important think is his teaching methodology: He is able to explain complicated ideas very understandable, always friendly and sympathetic. I really improved my skills quickly!
Ilja is a person who watch and identify my weakness, so he can create the lessons on my knwoledge and speed I need. His coaching is always impressive and very helpful. If you try to get better in chess, Ilja would be the right coach. Also if you have a question beside the lessons, he is always ready to help you out.
I am working with Ilja for a couple of months now and I am enjoying it since the very beginning. Ilja is a super professional coach, always on time, very helpful and supportive, very approachable, also outside the lessons. He is not only teaching but also sharing and his approach is to support me in understanding whatever challenge he is giving me. So, it is not just theoretical stuff, taught in a one-way street manner but really looking for my feedback and asking for my needs. I am definitely planning to continue working with Ilja! Beside being a fantastic chess teacher Ilja is a fun person to work with :)
I have been training with Ilja for many months now after trying many trainers and I very impress with his knowledge and teaching style. He is really good on analyzing my games and giving valuable inputs. His suggestions on how to think during the game, how to make critical decision, what to do on specific position and also time management has helped me a lot and I have started getting positive results in my game. His ability to identify the level of the players and giving customize advise to the player’s level is I found very impressive. The material and training exercises is also very specific to players and very good. Not to mention his professionalism, punctuality and friendly behavior is best I found so far. I highly recommend if you are serious about your chess and want to take it to the next level.
Ilja is very professional with a good blend of having fun. Since I starting working with him I've noticed that my playing strength has increased very rapidly and my understanding is too. I enjoy our lessons and the autonomous studies he gives me have helped tremendously. I would strongly recommend Ilja to anyone looking to improve their game.

Improving chess skill is difficult once you've reached adulthood - unless you train the right way...
Hi! I'm a 32-year-old GM from Hamburg, Germany, and you might know me from chess24. I cover the complete range of topics in chess training. I consider teaching students how to train chess the right way and supporting their autonomous training to be one of the most essential duties of a good chess coach.
