About me

Hello chess friends!

My name is Szymon Gumularz, I am a Polish Grandmaster who has just turned 21!
I currently live in Krakow, Poland and I also study there.
Chess has been my passion for more than 13 years, during this period i gathered a lot of knowledge, which im ready to share with You now!

Playing experience

I played my first tournament when i was 8 and immediately felt in love with the game! Only 4 years later I became the national champion under 12. Ever since then i have been playing regularly and won countless junior competitions in Poland.
I've also had great successes on international area, such as:
- Bronze medal in World Chess Championship Under 16 (Montevideo, 2017)
- Bronze medal in World Chess Championship Under 18 (Porto Carras, 2018)
Besides junior tournaments, i frequently scored high places in multiple Open and championship tournaments, most notable being:
-Scoring bronze medal at Polish Chess Championship 2023!
-shared 1st place in Cracovia International Chess Festival 2018
-shared 1st place in Cracovia International Chess Festival 2020
-shared 2nd place in Najdorf Chess Memorial (Warsaw, 2021)
I have also represented Polish National Team on World Team Chess Chapionship ( Jerusalem, 2022).

Teaching experience

I have over 3 years of coaching experience. I was mostly conducting individual lessons, but I can consider doing group classes too.
My students were from wide rating range so i have experience in teaching players of all levels ;)

Other experiences

In 2021 and 2022 I was frequently streaming chess comentary on Polish National Federation Twitch channel.

Best skills

My biggest strengths are: calculation, dynamical play and opening preparation, but since I'm a strong and active player i can help with every other aspect of chess too!

Teaching methodology

Before the classes i usually ask the student to send me 10 of his recent games. Then I analyze them to identify players strenghts and more importantly weaknesses. On the basis of this analysis i make a training plan and consult it with the student.
I have highly individual approach and can coach players with different play-styles because I'm a very flexible player myself!
The class includes homework and additional useful materials for chess development. For teaching we will mostly use Lichess tools, unless the player is experienced with professional software like Chessbase. For communication i prefer Skype/Discord but can also adjust to Your preference ;)
