About me

Hello, I am GM Momchil Nikolov from Bulgaria.
I am actively playing chess since I was a kid till now.
Besides chess I have graduated architecture in 2015.

Playing experience

I started playing chess on early age of 3 and never stopped.
I've been national champion in Bulgaria under almost every age group from 10 to 20 years and I was national champion for men in 2016.
I had played with national team of Bulgaria on two Olympiads in 2012 and 2016.
As my best sport result I will point out the silver medal on board 4 in the European Chess Club Cup 2010.
I am winner in many international strong open tournaments among which - Glasgow 2012; Monthey 2012; Apokoronas 2015; Albena Vivacom 2015; Guingamp 2016; Albena 2016; Primorsko 2016; Lille 2017; Athens 2017; Primorsko 2017; Noisiel 2018; Capelle-la-Grande 2018(1-2place); Athens 2018; Heusenstamm 2018, Guingamp 2019 etc.

Teaching experience

In 2016 I started professionally coaching people. Before that I had also some experience but mainly helping friends to improve.
My top best students are
1. Tsveta Galunova who made progress from 2000 to 2250 and achieved title WIM.
2. WIM Dharia Parnali who made progress from from 2050 to 2275 in only six months and achieved one WGM norm.
3. Sahil Tickoo who made progress in six months from 2170 to 2275 and was very closed to score 3 IM norms.
4. IM Angelos Sandalakis

Best skills

I am trying to be universal player and coach but as my style is more positional I think my strength in teaching is in - strategy, typical positions, technical endgames, theoretical endgames, positional solutions, exchanging pieces, converting the advantage, evaluating the position, and general chess understanding at all.

Teaching methodology

Very often my students can take only 1-2 hours per week which is not enough for making stable progress and in this case I recommend them chess literature and tactical exercises for homework so they can practice alone at least for 2-3 hours per day.

For online lessons I use skype, sharing my screen.
