About me

I’m Mohammad Fahad Rahman, a 22-year-old International Master from Bangladesh with a peak FIDE rating of 2440 and one Grandmaster norm. I’m currently ranked #1 in Bangladesh.

I’ve helped chess players of all levels improve—from beginners to titled players—by not just teaching moves, but by showing them how to think like a strong chess player and understand the reasoning behind every move.

Playing experience

I am primarily a professional chess player while also coaching alongside my career.

• Peak FIDE Rating: 2440
• Title: International Master (IM), awarded in 2019 (with 1 GM Norm).

I’ve proudly represented Bangladesh in 3 Chess Olympics:
• 43rd Chess Olympiad 2018 (Georgia)
• [Online] Chess Olympiad 2020 (Tornelo)
• 45th Chess Olympiad 2024 (Hungary)

I’ve also played in 3 FIDE World Cups:
• FIDE World Cup 2019 (Russia)
• FIDE World Cup 2023 (Azerbaijan)
• FIDE World Cup 2025 (India)

Notable Achievements:
• Champion, Dubai Junior 2016
• Champion, CJKS Grandmasters Tournament 2018
• Champion, Asian Zonal 2019 (qualified for FIDE World Cup 2019)
• Champion, Asian Zonal 2023 (qualified for FIDE World Cup 2023)
• Champion, Vietnam Grandmaster Tournament 2024 (achieved first GM norm)

I became International Master in 2019, and since then I have mainly played strong Grandmaster tournaments to pursue my GM title. My goal is to bring the experience I’ve gained from competing at the highest level into my coaching.

Teaching experience

I have 5–6 years of coaching experience, working with players across all levels:

• Helped titled players (IMs & GMs) with preparation and improvement.
• Guided a young player from 1200 FIDE rating to 2000+ in just one year of training.

One of my students have successfully achieved Grandmaster norms and made consistent progress in tournaments.

Other experiences

I am highly proficient with the professional tools necessary for modern chess coaching.

• Communication: Fluent in English, ensuring our lessons are clear and effective.
• Technical Proficiency: Expert user of professional chess software (ChessBase), analysis engines (Stockfish), and online platforms (Lichess, Chess .com, Chessable).
• Online Teaching: Experienced in conducting lessons through Zoom, Google Meet, and integrated classroom features on Lichess, Chess .com, and Chessable.

Best skills

Chess is easy to learn but difficult to master. In my view, a good coach must not only have a deep understanding of the game but also the ability to explain ideas clearly and effectively. True coaching requires both strong playing strength and the skill to identify a student’s weaknesses, as well as the ability to guide them on how to overcome those weaknesses.

My Chess Strengths:

• Universal Playing Style: My strength lies in being a well-rounded player. I have deep knowledge in all phases of the game—openings, middlegame strategy, tactics, and endgames.
• Up-to-Date Opening Repertoire: As an active professional, my opening preparation is sharp, modern, and designed to compete against top GMs. I can help you build a powerful repertoire that you can trust.
• Positional & Strategic Planning: I excel at understanding the subtleties of a position and creating long-term plans.
• Tactical Sharpness: I will teach you to be alert and ruthless, ensuring you punish your opponents' tactical mistakes.
• Endgame Technique: I have a strong command of the endgame and specialize in grinding out wins from equal or slightly better positions, a crucial skill for any serious player.
• Online Blitz & Bullet Expertise: Beyond classical chess, I am also highly skilled in fast-paced online formats. If you are interested in sharpening your intuition, improving your time management, and boosting your online ratings, I can provide specialized coaching.

My Teaching Skills:

• Diagnostic Ability: I am skilled at identifying the root cause of a student's mistakes and weaknesses.
• Personalized Planning: I create customized training programs designed to fix your specific weaknesses and enhance your strengths.
• Clear Explanations: I break down complex ideas into simple, understandable concepts.

Teaching methodology

My training program is structured, interactive, and tailored entirely to you. Here’s how we’ll work together:

1. Free Initial Assessment (30 minutes): Our journey begins with a complimentary consultation. We'll discuss your chess background, goals, ambitions, and challenges. By reviewing a few of your games, we can begin to pinpoint areas for improvement.

2. Personalized Training Plan: Following our assessment, I will design a structured training plan. This roadmap will outline the key areas we need to work on, such as specific openings, middlegame themes, endgame technique, and calculation skills.

3. Interactive Lessons: Our lessons are dynamic and engaging. We will focus on:
• Game Analysis: We will meticulously review your games to identify recurring patterns, decision-making flaws, and psychological habits.
• Thematic Study: We will work on specific topics from your training plan, using examples from both classic and modern master games.
• Student-Led Topics: If you have a particular opening, concept, or area you want to explore, we can dedicate our time to it.

4. Follow-up and Homework: After each session, I will provide a Lichess study or PGN file with all the material we covered. I will also assign targeted homework (puzzles, studies, or opening lines) to reinforce your learning. True improvement is a journey, and my goal is to be your long-term chess mentor.

*** Training Games: If you prefer practical play over theoretical lessons, we can dedicate our sessions to training games. We can play from the starting position or from a specific opening you want to practice, followed by a thorough analysis of the game.
