About me

My name is Jesse February. I am 27 years old.

I am a Woman International Master from Cape Town, South Africa.

My passions surrounding chess includes streaming, coaching and competing :)

My coaching career started in 2015 when I began working with schools, individuals and groups within a club.
Learning HOW to teach is definitely a whole different ballpark to competing. I've learnt that there is a huge difference between knowing how to play chess and being able to teach it.

My years as a coach have taught me patience, how to adapt my teaching style according to each student and most importantly that everyone learns at a different pace. My job is to explain concepts and introduce different approaches to the game.

Playing experience

I have been playing chess since 2005. I've represented my region at the national championship from 2006-present.
I attained my WIM title in 2016 and 1 WGM norm in 2017.
In 2021, I achieved my WGM-elect title which becomes official upon reaching 2100 FIDE.

My accolades include becoming:
2015 National Women's Junior Champion
2016 National Women's Junior Champion
2016 African Zonal Champion
2017 National Women's Junior Champion
2017 South African Women's Champion
2019 South African Women's Champion
2021 Regional Open Champion
2021 African Women's Champion
2024 South African Women's Champion
2024 African Women's Champion

Teaching experience

I have been coaching schools, groups and individuals since 2015.

I have produced educational content on other platforms including:

chess.com
chess24
cochess
pecc chess club

I have produced multiple junior players who have competed on a national & international level.

Teaching methodology

My sessions includes:

1. Training: concepts, classical games, patterns, openings
2. A study to refer back to with notes & annotations
3. Homework after each lesson
4. Instructions on how to proceed: training games, what resources to use and how to improve on your own.
