About me
Hi! My name is Ifan Rathbone-Jones and I'm currently studying Chemistry in Cardiff! I recently just hit 2200 FIDE and got my CM title. I run my own 4NCL (UK Chess league) team and helped us achieve back to back promotions. Outside of chess, I enjoy football and travelling. I'm (usually) an enthusiastic person and quite passionate about something I enjoy, I've peaked 2700 online!
Playing experience
I've played chess competitively ever since I was 8 years old, and have represented Wales internationally since I was 10. After that I became obsessed with the game and have played up and down the country ever since!

Teaching methodology
I self taught myself from 1900 FIDE to 2200 FIDE a little bit unconventionally!
I believe that understanding the middle game and endgame, as well as having tactical awareness are the most important skills for improving. In my opinion, memorisation can only get you so far, whereas if you already have a built up understanding of the game, you can add these skills in much easier later.
To help you improve, we will play some training games to help highlight weaknesses, then suggest some drills and homework can be given. Really, I want you to tell me what you'd like to improve and I can try my best to help you, I'll tailor my lessons to your goals and ambitions. Additionally, if you're unfamiliar with OTB events, I'd be able to offer advice and help you prepare for your first tournaments.
