About me

Hello! My name is Algol. I'm a 19 year old national master from Mexico. I'm currently studying physics. I'm looking for students who are interested in improving, fide 1500 and above.

Playing experience

I have recently played the World U20 and the Continental Championship. I have been playing chess since I was 6 y.o. Last year I won my first international open tournament. I have already acquired a couple GM scalps.

Teaching experience

I have experience teaching both the traditional way (general principles, pawn structures, typical plans & theoretical endgames) and the disruptive way (awareness of positional details, practical play, postional sacrifices, synergetic work with engines and opening novelties).
I have worked with older and younger players alike.

Best skills

Playable sidelines. Understanding niche positions. Drawing inferior endgames.

Energetic classes. I make sure you understand the positions. If you can't find the best move in a given position, I will show you some detail that will make it easier for you to see the best continuation.

Teaching methodology

I like to focus on the middle game but in all aspects of the game the method is the same. I like to analyze my students' games and see what they did wrong and focus on the positions that they didn't understand. The class often goes into tangents but I don't mind that because the most important thing to do in your training is to be curious and to sit down and think. Often times we don't undestand the position because we focus on the wrong things, and when we look at the engine's move, we are confused but that's because we aren't paying attention to a specific detail in the position.
