About me

Hello everyone! I am IM Sanket Chakravarty. I offer training as well as practice sessions.

Mail id: sanket.chak.04@gmail.com

I want to train only interested students, who have atleast some parental support for pursuing chess, which I feel is very necessary. Minimum FIDE rating should be 1600.

Playing experience

I started chess at the age of 4years old, and now playing for 16 years. I had brief breaks in between for my academics, which I think are equally important to some extent. I have played the likes of Pragg, Gukesh and Nihal in my youth in age group nationals. I have won some open and age group tournaments in Bengal. I made some podium finishes in tournaments across Europe. My personal highest rated win was against GM Levan Pantsulaia (2597) in Chennai Grandmasters 2020. Other than that I have won and drew against several 2500+ players.
1. Norway Open Blitz 2025 – Champion
2. 44th Indian National Teams 2025 – Silver
3. Asian Club Chess Champions League – Bronze, Individual Silver Board 5
4. 18th Plancoêt International Open 2025- Runner-up (joint Champion)
5. 8th RGCC International Open 2024- Runner-up

Teaching experience

I have acted as a second to some strong players. I believe in a friendly relation between the student and the teacher, for a smooth transition of knowledge.

Other experiences

I am currently pursuing my Bachelors in Computer Science and Engineering from Jadavpur University. I love travelling to new countries and doing crazy stuffs!

Best skills

I love to play complicated double edged positions. But my main strength is in positional chess. I have a very broad opening repertoire, but studying openings with engines make me feel bored. I try to find interesting human moves and try to make those work. Endgames are something I feel I am not very good at, but I am trying to do better.
I have worked with several coaches throughout my career and also worked with many strong players of my level. I believe the vast knowledge I earned from those experiences will be fruitful.

Teaching methodology

You have to send me your games from your last 3 tournaments.
1. In the first 2 classes I will analyse your games and try to point out your most important weaknesses.
2. In the next classes I will work on your weaknesses and give you homeworks which you can solve using the general principles you learn from the class.
3. I will give you some opening files depending on your needs, but it is something I don't emphasize on the most.
