About me

My name is André and I am a 19 year-old Norwegian FIDE Master with 1 IM-norm as well as being a licensed National Arbiter and National Instructor. I started playing chess when I was 12 years old and after working excessively with my coach, I got to a level of 2000 rating in less than a year. My goal as a chess coach is to help others get to a high level efficiently. This is because like many other things, chess gets more fun the better you are at it!
As I pursue a Master's Degree in Physics and Mathematics at the Norwegian university NTNU, I'm expand my chess coaching online as a side hustle.

Playing experience

My best chess result is my recent draw against super GM Praggnanandhaa as white in the Norwegian chess club elite series championship. If interested, here Is a link to the game: lichess.org/study/QTJIFRQv
I took my IM norm in July 2022 where I also scored my first win against a GM in standard chess. Currently I am slowly working to improve my chess game and hopefully become an IM in due time.

Teaching experience

I have over the last 2 years been a teacher for my local chess club as well as teaching theory for some of the theme tournaments at Stavanger Chess Club. I have also had a private student whom within a couple months went from being completely new to the game to having a blitz rating on lichess of 1500.

Other experiences

I have participated in multiple teaching and chess courses and have been tought by Ramachandran Ramesh, Jacob Aagard, Samuel Shankland and even Boris Gelfand at the Quality Chess Academy.

Best skills

My strong suit in chess is calculation and understanding. My goal is to help you get stronger at both of these in an efficient and fun way. That way you can have a better grasp about what chess is really about and hopefully motivate you to get even better! 😊

Teaching methodology

Efficiency is key. Our lessons will be spent analyzing and me explaining different ideas, thought methods, openings etc. that way you will get the most out of our time in lessons. I will also guide you on how to pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses and help you improve them both.
