The Qatar Masters 2023 is a 9-round Swiss, held from the 11th to the 20th of October in Doha, Qatar.

As one of the strongest chess tournaments in the world, the event features super grandmasters Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura and Anish Giri among other famous players competing for a total prize fund of $108,250.

Time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, with an additional 30 minutes for the rest of the game and a 30-second increment from move 1.

In the event of a tie for the 1st place, a two-game play-off match will be played. Time control is 5 minutes for the entire game with a 3-second increment from move 1.

In the event of a tie in the play-off match, another two-game match will be played. If the second match is tied as well, an Armageddon game will decide the winner.
