Three Questions to ask Yourself Before Making a Move

ChessOver the boardChess Personalities
Follow your instincts and don't rush. This blog will teach you three questions to ask yourself before making a move.

Welcome...

Welcome. Today, we will discuss 3 questions to ask yourself before making a move.

Asking questions before you make a move is a really good chess concept to follow if you want to succeed.

1. What is this move going to do?

You should always think what your move will do. Will your move create a threat? Maybe force a checkmate? Or make a fork? This is why we ask questions. You should always know what your move is going to do.

2. Is this move going to help me?

This question is similar to question 1, but with a twist.
You're looking for moves that will satisfy you. You're asking yourself "Is this move going to help me?" Well, if you're not sure, just ask this question that accepts the following:

Move is going to help block, threaten, or force a checkmate. Move is going to help do something proficient. Example: Attack or defend. Move will provide a threat, as so: Pin, Skewer, etc.

3. This is a good move! But is there a better one?

What every chess player should know is if their move is good or does something. As we covered in Question 2. Yes, this is very important to know if you are a good chess player. You need to know what this move does and what is makes / gives / threatens / blocks. This question is similar to Question 3.
