Sport64sqs Online Championship 2024: A New Era of Competitive Chess

We're thrilled to announce the details of our most exciting season yet, dedicated exclusively to the vibrant Nigerian online chess community. Whether you're a seasoned chess player or a newcomer to the game, this championship is designed to be challenging, inclusive, and fun for everyone. Here’s everything you need to know to participate and make the most of this incredible journey.

Tournament Overview

The Sport64sqs Online Championship runs from January to December, featuring 11 monthly tournaments in an arena format on Lichess.org. The grand finale in December will crown our ultimate champion, making it a season-long journey of strategy, skill, and community engagement.

• Monthly Arenas: 11 tournaments from January to November.
• Grand Finale: Top 64 players compete in December.
• Platform: Lichess.org

Tournament Format

Monthly Arenas:

• Format: 3+0 Blitz (3 minutes per player, no increment).
• Duration: 2 hours.
• Schedule: Last Friday of each month at 8 PM NGT.
• Participation: Open to all registered players.
• Objective: Gather as many points as possible to qualify for the finale.

Grand Finale:

• Stages:
  • Round of 32: Top 8 players automatically qualify. The next 16 compete for 8 slots. The remaining 48 (40 + 8 from the previous round) play for 12 slots. The last 4 slots filled by lucky losers (selection rules to be determined).

  • Quarterfinals
  • Semifinals
  • Finals
• Schedule: December 7-8, 14-15 for qualifying rounds; December 21-22, 24-25 for remaining rounds; Finals on December 26. 2024

Registration and Participation

Participating in the Sport64sqs Online Championship is straightforward and accessible.
Monthly Arenas:

• Fee: 1,000 Naira per tournament.
• How to Register: Use Paystack or bank transfer to complete your registration.

Grand Finale:

• No Registration Fee Required: Top 64 players from the monthly arenas qualify automatically.
• Important: Players must use the same Lichess account throughout the championship.
