People play both e and d pawn for their beginning move, by a personal choice, I like to play the d pawn in most cases. When white, I always play the Cole System. I find it convenient, and it gives a good defense, and attack. Start with d4, black plays d5, nf3, nf6, e3, e6, bd3, nc6, nd2. These are the main opening moves of the Cole System, now there are many tricks you can do with this opening, for example the the Greek Gift, one of my favorites, this all there is for now.
