My Best Zugzwang Game
2 rooks, bishop, king, 4 pawns and no good moves.I've been playing some 10+0 games on chess.com, getting back my lost rating (trying to, atleast), and one of theese games was so interesting, I think it's wort sharing!
I got matched against an over 100 points higher-rated opponent, but I got the White pieces. As always, I had opened with 1.e4 and we entered the Caro-Kann. I've made 2 public studies about my goofy lines against the Caro (against Bf5, and Nf6/Nd7), so I'm happy to get a chance to play them.
My opponent chooses the Nd7 Nf6 setup, followed by e6. If Black takes on e4 first, I like to play Bd3 Ne5 O-O and launch an attack with well-timed Qh4, but if Black doesn't exchange the knights, our Queen occupies the d3 square, so we can't play Bd3. White still has another option of preparing the attack - Bd2 O-O-O and often g4. My opponent decides to take on e4 right after playing e6, giving me a chance to play Bd3 and O-O insted of going long, but I decided to stick with O-O-O. Black's position is very dangerous either way. If we had 2 free moves, after Bd3 and Qh4 Black is losing already.
After g6 played by my opponent, the kingside structure kinda resembles a Dragon Sicilian, but lacking the queenside counterplay. And the engine agrees. Had i played h4 right away, Black would soon just fall apart, but then we wouldn't have this amazing post, would we? ;) A couple of incompetent attempts at attacking by me, and inaccurate defending resources by my opponent later, we arrive at a position, where I'm down a piece and a queen trade is basically forced. But Black's extra piece isn't very threatning, and I still have 2 scary g and h-pawns. With a massive lead in development, space and king safety, lacking only in material, White definitely still maintains an edge.
Pretty beautiful position no? 2 rooks, a bishop, a king and 4 pawns. And every single move loses material. Like in a puzzle. The game didn't end here, my opponent played few more moves then resigned. If you are really interested, what were my opponent's last moves, here: game link. Maybe this game convinced you to try out my goofy Qd3 response to Tartakower's and Karpov's Caro. Please leave your thoughts in the comments, I really like to chat with you. And thank you so much for reading. If you enjoyed, leave a heart! <3 If you didn't, tell me why, I'd love to hear feedback from you.
Take care!

Another weird line, this time for the Black pieces. Very dynamic, and punishes natural moves.
