Salwe - Marshall, Vienna, 1908
The Other Lasker's NotesThe Kaiser's 60th Jubilee Chess Tournament at Vienna featured many of the top players of the time. In round two, Georg Salwe and Frank James Marshall played the Italian Game.
Georg Salwe, the editor of the chess magazine Erste Yidishe Shahtsaytung, had a relatively short, but fairly successful, chess career which didn't start until his middle age. Frank James Marshall favored aggressive play and confounding complications, prompting his nickname "The Great Swindler;" he won the U.S. Chess Championship twice before relinquishing the title to allow a change from a match to a tournament format.
Edward Lasker annotated the game in 1915.
