The Other Lasker's NotesThe Vienna International Masters Tournament, held in conjunction with a Jubilee Exhibition for the monarch of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, featured many of the top players of the time. In round twelve Géza Maróczy and Johann Nepomuk Berger played the Ruy Lopez.
Géza Maróczy took first or second place in almost a dozen international tournaments in the 1900s; he was one of the first players to receive FIDE's Grandmaster title. Johann Nepomuk Berger was a notable endgame theorist and the editor of the German chess magazine Deutsche Schachzeitung.
