Lichess Autumn Marathon and some Trainings.
This is my perspective on the lichess Marathon and as a Low Rated player how I and you Can get better for any tournamentsMARATHON In my perspective.
The Autumn Marathon 2024 was a new experience for me here's the link
https://lichess.org/tournament/autumn24
BTW Congrats to all the winners
In the marathon there were 219,733 Games played. I played 83 Games with only 6 wins and a draw.
I for the first time played a NM or any titled player and defeated a 2000+ rated player finishing 8339th place
with 2 Hours or so.
Most people wasted 10- 14 Hours playing for top 1000 But for a low rated player like me I think topping 50% was great and I came top 41%
Almost all the people were above 1400+ and all of them were above my ratings.
The 2+1 approach for me was not that fun it was like blitz but never ending a 1+0 or 3+0 approach would have been fun as players would play around the clock but now premove 3 Moves and a 10 second time goes to 13 giving ample time to think. It is the reason I did not play much and if they wanted blitz a 0+12 would be hilarious and hard.
How To train for It
How to train for the tournament. Is this school? And here is the way to be better at chess.
I have heard from NMs, CMs and Non - Titled FIDE players to learn for a tournament.
Like you have to learn the opening like Kings Indian, Ruy Lopez, Four Knights, Scandinavian Gambit, Dutch Gambit, Danish Gambit, etc.
Then learn all the possible good moves and counter to the gambits and learn to defend them.
Then learn The Middle and Endgame Tactics etc.
This tedious task makes chess boring but shows the extinct we went on a board game so the 1000 Level to 1900 level rated players have to use their gamesense but after that it is impossible to go without learning the Tactics and strategies.
I did not learn the counter to Kings Indian Defence I got wrecked.
I know how to counter the Sicilian and Caro- Kann and Ruy Lopez Sometimes, I can play the Scandinavian and 4 Knights very well as I learned them first.
Some Ways on Training your Gamesense
But still all of this alone can not make you a FIDE Rated player or titled then how do titled players do it?
Its simply their gamesense how do we train that?
Well I don't know that's why I am still 1000 or so. But playing in positions, analysing them using strategies and tactics and learning to calculate in my spectrum are the ways to get better gamesense and work until 1400. But I can not calculate properly and have some other skill issues holding me back from getting better.
Know knowing how to train and having my perspective is good but to be better you need more than my perspective so you can join a discussion or team with some people for their perspective and how they train lastly we do not need forget in the tournament mess about the things you have learned then you are ready for a amateur tournament.
Some tips that did not fit
As A low rated player Reaching out to higher players is Great Way of learning chess.
Playing chess in a community is much more fun than anything as you can learn and play getting experience.
Here is a study I have Made specifically for me and you to learn
There are also other great studies like some opening traps endgame, Techniques, ect
The best way to analyse and get better is using the Game Review in Chess.com but its paid.
Some other Game Review Websites are their but self Analysing is the best and see where you have gone wrong
Using the Green, Blue, And Red lines you can calculate the position I use this method
Green Lines - Moves
Blue Lines - Possibilities and Counters
Red Lines - Attacks, Threats, and Pieces going to be traded to see if its a fair trade
IM Gothamchess also said to go through a checklist that has helped me a lot and he said to see what your opponent want so that's why I use Blue lines to see what my opponents want BTW here is the Checklist
Attacks
Captures
Checks
This can maybe help you too and for any other discussions you can leave a message on some tips that helped you too.
