"What is the reasoning behind Be2?"

The hallmark of Neimann's games is that he prepares strange moves that are not bad, but look weird and have a lot of tricks. That is actually really good opening preparation; it makes things hard on the opponent. Not only on the board, but psychologically. It reminds of me of Tal-Botvinnik where Tal played f4 where it is normally ?! but he said that against Botvinnik it was ! because B. felt compelled to punish the move. But it wasn't a mistake, it wasn't ? it was only dubious, and playing aggressively in response negates the dubiousness of the move.

I think most bizarre move was 12th move G4 AFTER! 0-0?
I think including the out of context quote from Levon is a bit misleading. He clarified his stance on this game. Anyways was a pretty good game by Hans.
My answer to question 1: white wanna switch to a dragon with going Be2 next Bd3-Be2 cost a tempo but a7-a6 don't look so valueable in the dragon so it looks like a reasonable move to get into a Dragon.
Answer for question 2 since question 3 is about to react how to play a good move vs white last move than Rc8 gotta be right
i guess that Aronian wanna avoid that white got the marocy bind structure after Rc8 Nd5 c4. but 15..e6 intented to avoid Nd5 followed by c4. but going e6 also had a disadvantage because the pawn on d6 becomes a target.
15..e6 is a unusual blunder for a player with the level of Aronian even for rapid standard its a very unusual blunder for him
Question 3 is tough if black goes h6 h4 xg5 hxg5 i don't see a clear follow up for black after it though but atleast black got open h file for now and white might go Kg2 Rh1 quickly if black goes h6 first with the idea gxh6 Qh4 and xh6 next he will be happy if white takes but white does h4 if black goes h5 atleast the knight of black can go to g4 after f4 and white got no more option for h2 h2

That Niemann has Dlugy as coach kinda smells imo.
