When Jalaliddin Manguberdi grew up, his father appointed him governor and heir to the lands of Ghazni, Bamiyan, Gur, Bust, Takinabad, Zamindovar and India (1215). However, Qutbiddin was deprived of his inheritance in favor of Uzlakshah due to the strong protests of the Turkic women and Kipchak emirs. Jaloliddin Manguberdi participated in his father's military campaigns and demonstrated his brave warrior and talented commanding skills (see Ekang on the Irgiz River). When the Mongol armies led by Genghis Khan invaded Movarounnahr, captured one city after another, and approached Samarkand, the Khorezm king Muhammad took refuge on the island of Ashur near the town of Obeskun on the Caspian Sea.
Muhammad, who was seriously ill, summoned his sons and at the last moment appointed Jalaliddin Manguberdi as his successor. Jaloliddin Manguberdi, along with his brothers Oqshah and Qutbiddin Uzloqshah, rushed to the defense of Gurganj. However, the Kipchak emirs of Gurganj tried to assassinate Jaloliddin Manguberdi by declaring Khumortegin, the Turkon's brother, sultan. Upon learning of this, Jalaliddin Manguberdi left Gurganj with 300 cavalry led by Temur Malik and set out for Khorasan. Near the city of Nisa, 700 Mongol cavalrymen were waiting for him. Jaloliddin Manguberdi defeated them after a fierce battle and came to Nishapur. From there he sent letters to all the governors of the provinces urging them to unite against the Mongol invaders, and a month later marched on Gaza. On the way, he was joined by the governor of Herat, his father-in-law Aminalmulk, with an army of 10,000 men. During a three-day battle with the Mongols besieging Kandahar, Jalaliddin Manguberdi defeated them. He came to Ghazni in 1221.
