Well... on touchpad and on mouse you are actually making the moves. On keyboard you give an input and it makes the move for you. No dragging or clicking involved. I think there's a distinction.

If the main point is “if anyone can download it for free, it is not unfair” then I think it is easily refutable. Using that logic, cheating should be allowed because you can get stockfish for free.

Sometimes the important thing is chess is keeping and converting the advantage, rather than simply having it and giving it away.
