I guess its a bug that needs to be fixed.
I cant resign either and now I am getting warnings for letting the time run out. Does somebody know what to do?
Maybe explain exactly what you are doing and what happens click by click. Are you confirming the resignation?

@Bastilli no you're not the first person to struggle. The interface isn't completely intuitive and there's no help or tutorial.
Agreed. You'd expect a dialogue window for confirmation of such a drastic click. Instead, the Resign button gets a colour, but if you do nothing, it reverts after a second or two. A Yes/No pop-up would make more sense. I do love the CAPTCHA check for these forum posts though :)
