I think it would be a great feature if you could gift patron status, similar to how users can gift Reddit Gold. It could be gifted to other players as a thank you or as a prize for winning a custom tournament, and could generate some extra revenue for the site. Anyone else have any interest in this?
But you don't get anything for being a patron. So it would be like saying, " thank you , here is patron status. Enjoy having access to everything you did before."
You get a cool little badge! Basically I am hoping for the ability to offer some kind of tournament prizes that benefit the site. It could just be some cool kind of badge like the shield tournaments, but if that's too much to ask I think the ability to gift patron status would be a nice start.

If you gift it to someone else then are they really a "patron"? I don't think it makes much sense. But if enough people care about the emblem it might work and if it makes more money for Lichess then it's all good I guess.

Yeah, I mean you don't really get anything except the badge as is, but it can be a point of honor for some. In any case all the other trophies and shields do not offer anything other than bragging rights either.
As far a patronage, people often make donations or charitable contribution in someone else's name or honor to other organizations, so it would be nice to be able to do that here too.

That's true. I'm not even a fan of the emblem but understand why they do it. I don't think you should get anything for being a patron. I'm sure some people would love "a cool little badge" but just can't afford to donate. So maybe your idea is a good one.

Other sites have the ability to "gift" membership. (However, possibly displayed as a member, does not mean a paying patron.) Such gifts are time-limited (i.e. a year). Maybe you can renew on behalf of another, maybe not. That, however, is a commercial-type venture. Whereas, usage of "patron" and associated symbols or denotations would be misplaced in this regard.

@MagnusXL In addition to getting a legal badge, you help keep the lichess servers. After all, everything is free and for our enjoyment. I've already helped, and I hope to help again as soon as I can.
