Isn't it better to see the tiger that's not there than to not see the tiger that is there?
You guys know I'm talking about pattern recognition as a survival mechanism.
I wonder how far back this goes in mammalian evolution? I've see a cat leap away from a piece of hose because it triggered the avoidance response to a particular visual stimulus ( a snake).
So apparently the phenomenon is trans species.
A prairie dog or a meer cat will sound an alarm in response to the shadow of a predatory bird. Pattern recognition.
So I spoke earlier as if pattern recognition was solely a mammalian trait. It's not. Cephalopods are quite adept at it.Bees communicate by patterns.
Fish school in patterns.
Birds fly in patterns .
Anyway,
Back to the beginning, pareidolia, false recognition as a survival mechanism.
What do you think?
