Lichess restarted and locked up (apparently) and showed my opponents time running down to zero. Then exiting out it showed I lost the game as my time ran out.
how can i get my lost points (12) back??

Extremely unfortunate that you ran into this bug (I haven't gotten this in the last several years on lichess.org, but its almost a bi or tri-daily occurrence on chess.com) Note: PC version, not mobile
Sometimes if I am waiting a while, I check my ping and refresh the page out of habit. Fortunately, if we are aware of bugs like this, we can spot them in the future, to they occur again. Usually lichess has the 'disconnected' red bar in the bottom left that turns green 'reconnected' I also check my ping (click your username) if your ping is dead static (not fluctuating at all) you may have a frozen webpage. Good thing for lichess.org at least, is the site is optimized great, you don't have any load animation or clunky packages you don't need to play your game (poor, unoptimized chess.com)

@SGP17 What happened was you got disconnected making it seem like your opponent lost on time and then when the game ends you reconnect to lichess where you see you lost on time because you never saw your opponents move.
Lichess has tried but its not easy to detect disconnection 100% of the time without pinging the server all the time
I recommend to refresh every 30secs depending on game length and how stable your internet is
