I just stumbled across the breakdown of costs in lichess.org/costs and saw that the number of games per day is said to be 5,200,000. How can this be if there are only about 3 million games per day in the open database? Which hidden games am I missing?
the under 1600 is not in the data base @Socrates399
database.lichess.org/#standard_games
You have "some" rated games from here. Also remember to add the all the rated variants from it the tab there as well.
Then I guess you would need to also include all the casual games.

"Some" rated games = rated games above 1600 Elo? I didn't know the database was made up that way.
While we're at it, is there any data on how many puzzles/puzzle streaks/etc. people do?

"Some" was meant ironically. There is a huge amount of games there.
>rated games above 1600 Elo? I didn't know the database was made up that way.
It's not. Maybe #2 means the Lichess opening database which has some filters. But it's more complicated then just a simple rating cutoff iirc. But yeah, not all games are included in it.
>While we're at it, is there any data on how many puzzles/puzzle streaks/etc. people do?
database.lichess.org/#puzzles has nbPlays as a field for puzzles. So you can at least check that.

I'm amazed. How does lichess make 420K a year just with donations? It's incredible.
