Its from a free website upsplash. I'll DM you the link tonight when I'm home!
Cool story. Why don't you just disable the rating on Lichess? You can play rated games but never know what your numbers are (or your opponent's).
Very nice story, but one question remained for me, what is a G25?

Thank you! G25 is short for game 25. Time control 25 minutes for each player + 0 increment.
Ono, thanks for the blog post. I have recently returned to OTB chess. I played a little in my late 20s, early 30s, enough to get a provisional USCF rating, and now after a year and a half of playing online I've returned to in-person chess at age 66.
Like you I am finding the social aspect of OTB chess really enjoyable. After my initial anxiety I now find it (so far) less stressful. It's wonderful to see a real human being sitting across from me, and to have others in the room I can chat with before and after a game.
I was also saddled with empathy--for me, when I beat an adorable little 9 year old kid (I think I must be yearning for grandchildren). Even my losses have also been much more enjoyable OTB.
Good luck!
