What about having different time controls for each of the shields of every variant?
For example, on June 3+2 Chess960 shield. On July, 3+0. On August 1+0 and on September , 2+1 .
I know people will think thats a bad idea but I think it could be more exciting if this shield tournaments could be changing of time control each time. So people that prefer playing that variant with a slow time control could keep doing it on the slower shield battles.
But this could be an oportunity for all the players that like that presure in your time , and prefers playing faster games. And im not saying anyithing about faster than 1+0 for example, because this would be just beeing fast. But needer 20+20 because it would be veeery long.
So people that prefer the 3+2 could still play with this time control shield, but a player that usually plays 2+0 could also play one shield with his favorite time control.
