this sites stalemate detection is literal trash

i lost points off a game it called a stalemate when he literally only had his king left and i was moments away from a checkmate, and its not the first time its happened to me either, i wouldn't be mad if it was even close but it wasn't i had an obvious lead and he had no chance. (EDIT) so i see how the stalemate works, it means one side can force a stalemate in order to not lose even if they're losing, but it said in the stalemate learning thing, no one wins or loses in a stale mate, so how can it be that my opponent can force a stalemate when he's losing and yet I STILL lose points?(EDIT 2) just to be clear, I'm not mad about the stalemate, I'm mad I lost points off what's deemed to be a tie, if it stalemated it should be +-0 no?

Thanks to @Nihongo-san and @kwesiquest for actually explaining what happened and why, I appreciate it.
Stalemate occurs when one side can no longer make a legal move and is NOT in check.
That might have happened.
The trashy stalemate detection sits in front of the computer.
how is this a stalemate, a stalemate is when neither player can make any move or when the only moves possible are repeating themselves yes?
