But what I find really worrying is someone using a second account on an open minded discussion. How insidious can that be?... Forums exist that ban users for having a second active account. Think about it. It is not only online chess rules that can be debatable.

Stop playing for the fake gold of arena tournaments. Berserk is only possible in tournaments. There are also custom tournaments where berserk is disabled.
Berserking is a privilege, and like with all privileges it can be misused. Like in Uarenas people have misused it and so the feature was removed. Complaining about the tool is not a solution since the tool itself is not in control. You want to blame those who actively and with malicious intent misuse the berserk feature. If possible you want to prevent them from using the feature.
Now enough theory, in reality it is unfortunate that lichess is understaffed when it comes to moderating sandbagging and it won't be fixed soon since it's only a cosmetic issue. Just report those who you cheat and maybe in time someone with more power will help.
